Preparing your CV
Your CV is an important chance to make an initial impression. We suggest you note the following points:
- A cv should be no more than three pages, preferably two
- Ensure it is easy to read and use bullet points to highlight achievements
- Include your address, telephone number and e-mail address
- Check for spelling or clarity before you submit
- Ensure the information is up to date
- Employment history should be in reverse chronological order (your current employment first)
- Give clear dates and explain any gaps
- Check that your cv is relevant to the role you are interested in
- Try to be clear and concise and avoid company jargon
- Send a covering e-mail setting out your current package and other relevant details (e.g. whether you could relocate, are prepared to travel etc)
Interview Preparation
Your interview is an opportunity impress, therefore you should:
- Find our about the company you are going to meet by checking their website, reading any literature you can get or visit the local library or Chamber of Commerce
- Allow plenty of time to arrive at the interview and plan your route beforehand
- Dress smartly.
- Do not chew gum or arrive smelling of smoke.
- Store the company's number and REP's number in your mobile 'phone before you leave, in case of problems on the way to the interview.
- Ensure you can discuss the achievements you have listed on your cv
- Think about the questions you may be asked, given your experience and background
- Think about any unusual or challenging questions you may be asked
- Think about questions you need to ask about the company (e.g. its future plans or prospects for development)
- Finally be friendly to everyone you meet and act professionally throughout
